Engineering Masterclass

In Engineering Masterclass the children have had opportunities to design, make and test their own ideas.  Over the 13 sessions, we have worked on a range of activities:  paper structures (planes, towers and bridges); geodesic domes (built from sweets and cocktail sticks); bottle rockets, balloon powered cars and rocket cars (all in conjunction with ambassadors from Bloodhound SSC); catapults and marble runs.

Please see below for a variety of pictures of the children taking part in the activities.

Our first activity with Bloodhound SSC was designing, building and launching bottle rockets.

We then designed and built balloon powered cars which we raced in the hall.

The children worked well together to build geodesic domes using cocktail sticks and sweets/ marshmallows.  They also enjoyed eating them afterwards!

We found many different uses for paper: tall towers and strong towers; bridges to support weight between two tables; and paper aeroplanes.

One of the childrens’ favourite activities was designing, building and racing the rocket cars.  The fastest one reached a speed of over 30 miles per hour!!

Our final activity ,which was one of the most popular, was marble runs.  The children used a range of objects to create innovative designs that were all very different.
