Forest School

Forest School within the Hanham Primary Federation is an exciting part of the curriculum where the children get up close to the outdoor environment. The children spend an afternoon a week outside in ‘our forest’ where they can explore the environment for themselves.

Children from both schools within the Hanham Primary Federation participate in Forest School.

Forest school is inspired by a concept brought to England from Denmark over 21 years ago. Our children learn to develop their own learning styles through ‘hands on’ experience of real tools such as knives and saws. The pupils gain independence which leads to an increased self esteem not only in the ‘forest’ but back in the classroom.

Forest School sessions are planned and run by a Level 3 Forest School trained member of staff.

The safety of the children during Forest School is paramount, the children are set clear boundaries and the ratio of staff is high allowing us to develop the skills at an individual pace.
