School Dinners

Dinner Options

There are three lunch options for children:

  1. To have a School Dinner cooked on site
  2. Summer Term Menu 2017 – see the link below: HAJ Summer Menu 2017

  3. To bring a Packed Lunch to eat at school
  4. To go Home for Lunch

Meals at School

School meals are prepared on site by Aspens Services. They produce high quality food using local produce from local suppliers.

The school meal provision is managed by the school office. This means that money paid is administered by school staff and it also means that the school pays Aspens direct. All school meals need to be paid for in advance and it will not be possible for us to allow any family to get into arrears as this will have a direct impact on the school budget.

The cost of a school meal is £2. Meals for a week must be ordered and paid for by Friday of the previous week. Some parents prefer to pay termly.

If you send payment into school in your child’s book bag, please only send cheques in a sealed envelope clearly marked with your child’s name, their class and ‘school dinners’. Cheques should be made payable to South Glos Council as the school accounts are held in this name.

If you wish to pay in cash please pay this directly to the school office. To save queuing, money can be put into the letterbox inside the Hanham Abbots office if it is in a secure, sealed envelope clearly marked as above.

Packed Lunches

Packed lunches should be wholesome and healthy. Please include:

  • Starchy foods. These are bread, rice, potatoes and pasta, and others.
  • Protein foods. These are meat, fish, eggs, beans and others.
  • A dairy item. This could be cheese or yoghurt.
  • Vegetables or salad, and a portion of fruit

Click here for more information about healthy lunches.

NB: Crisps only allowed on Fridays

Lunch at Home

Children can go home for lunch if they are collected and returned by an adult. All children leaving the premises during the school day should have written permission from a parent and must sign in and out each time they go home for lunch

Morning Break Snacks

Children are encouraged to bring a fruit snack to enjoy during morning break. Children in Y6 operate a Fruit Tuck Shop where children can buy a piece of fruit for only 20p. This is subsidised by the school.

Drinks

It is important that children drink plenty of water. This has an impact on their health and their readiness to learn. Please send your child to school with a named re-sealable bottle suitable for water. Please note that no other drinks are acceptable in the classroom. A pure fruit juice with a packed lunch is acceptable but…

NO sugar based or fizzy drinks are allowed.
